Herb Greenberg for Fortune Magazine
July 3, 2014 9:02 amBlind since age 10, Herb Greenberg knows what discrimination feels like. After receiving a doctorate in psychology and human relations at New York University, he graduated summa cum laude. He applied for 600 jobs, but after he mentioned his eyesight only three perspective employers offered him interviews, and none of them hired him. So instead he created the Caliper Profile, a pioneering personality test that could predict how well a person would perform a job, teaching America’s industries that potential matters more than experience. Caliper has worked with 35,000 companies — including Prudential, Avis Budget Group, and Walmart — and generates annual revenues in the $25 million to $50 million range.
